Hi Everybody! It's been awhile since my last post, but here I am. As of September 2024, I have begun working on a new album. My hope is that it won't take five years to complete, like the last one. At present we have three songs in the can: Dustbowl Billy, Dad's Old Records and Heart of the World. I am recording at Horizon Music here in Calgary with the indomitable John Thiel at the helm. The process has been I record the basic tracks of guitars and voice. Then we add the other instruments, I have some fantastic musicians helping me out with this project: Wayne Immonen on bass, Andrzej Ryscka on drums, Roger Duncan on percussion and Liam Volke on backup vocals.
At a session on March 1, the last person to be brought into the process was the aforementioned Liam Volke, my son. It was a joy to have him sing on my songs. Originally, Liam came on board to only sing on Heart of the World. John slyly was able to get him to sing backup harmonies on Dustbowl Billy as well.
The results were fantastic, as the “Liam Tabernacle Choir” filled up the spaces with soaring harmonies. As we listened to the playback of Heart of the World, we couldn't help but smile with joy at what we had wrought.
Similar wonders were created on Dustbowl Billy, a different type of song altogether.
